a bit about me :)

hello knitters, i thought i would fill you in on a bit about me 🙂 there is more to me then meets the needle 🙂

Who are you? : i am a mum of one boy, Kobe, who is 6. He is my world. I have a wonderful husband (to be) and i couldnt live a day with out him (well…the occasional day apart is good 😛 )

Where are you from?: 11 years ago i moved from Darwin to Melbourne with my wonderful friend Kelly and my then partner. things changed, but i never left :0 ) Melbourne is now the place i call home

What do you do for work?: i work for a structural Engineer, I am the administrator/receptionist. I am the face of the company, i organise all the plan printing, council approvals, accounts and debt collection.

What are your hobbies?: Knitting of course, reading, Knitting, playing with my son, Knitting, Facebook , and spending time with family and friends

When did you learn to Knit?: about 7 years ago i was running a Cafe inside a call centre. Every lunch time the older ladies would come in, sit and knit and chat. One day one of the ladies bought in some wool and knitting needles for me and she said “come on, u watch us all the time, so i’ll teach you” and off i went and delveloped my passion for yarn and knitting.

Why do you enjoy knitting?: i find it very relaxing to knit, and find it rewarding when i finish a project. It can sometimes be frustrating when it doesnt turn out how you want it to, but now that i know how to read patterns properly, i enjoy it more. the feeling of acomplishment is amazing when i complete something, i can proudly say “I made that!”

What are some things you have made?: i have made 100’s of scarves (lol) a shawl, Beanies, Blankets and Trauma Teddies for our local hospital

What are you currently making?: i am making a blanket for our couch, i have started The Travelling Yarn, making blankets for Charity, and starting some Yarn Bombs for A Life In Yarn.

well, i hope you have enjoyed reading this 🙂 If you can think of any questions you would like answered, please feel free to post on here or on my facebook page 🙂

Thanks and Happy Knitting

i have decided to start a charity fund raiser. I want to collect squares fom all over the world, make blankets and donate them to a wonderful charity called Save The Children.

Save the Children (thru Unicef) are an organisation who collect  knitted/crochet squares , made with 8ply wool.

the specifications are listed below

Knitted Blanket Guidelines:

  • Please use 4mm needles
  • Please use 8ply 100% pure wool
  • A perfect-sized blanket is made up of 16 knitted squares
  • Each square should be about 20cms x 20cms (44 stitches wide, 88 rows high)

if you would like to know more about Save The Children please visit

http://www.savethechildren.org.au/what-you-can-do/campaigns/born-to-knit/how-to-knit-a-blanket

or find them here on facebook

when you are making your square, i would love you to email me a picture of you and the sqaure, where you are from and why you want to help. i will be starting a photo album called “the Travelling Yarn”. please send emails to knitaholics@yahoo.com.au

Im so excited about this project, and would LOVE to have this as a world wide contribution to helping keep the Homeless warm

if you would like any more details/info please email me at knitaholics@yahoo.com.au

thankyou all so much, and i cant wait to get the ball rolling…so to speak

Also, there is no time limit as such, each blanket needs 16 squares, so i will sew them together as they arrive, and will be sure to post pics of when i donate them 🙂
